Gifts and cards...do you put thought into these things or just slap something together. For me most of the time I try to find a gift that I know the person will really like, sometimes when I am in a pinch I will just get a quick suitable gift.
Truly though I enjoy buying gifts that I think people will appreciate. I listen for clues, make mental notes and keep them stored in my brain, which is not as sharp as it used to be unfortunately. Here are some examples of my Christmas gifts this year: Guy's step father is really into graffiti art and I found a cocktail shaker that looked like a spray paint graffiti can, side note he and Guy's mom also enjoy the occasional cocktail. Dual functioning gift! Guy's mom also really likes the Wizard of Oz Ruby slippers, so this year I got her socks that look like the ruby slippers, too cute! My mom is really into Chickens so this year I found some cute plates and bowls with a country Chicken pattern on them and scooped them up. She had a luncheon yesterday and called to tell me how perfect they worked out for her guests! Bonus!
I get excited when I find things that I think are the perfect gift, I also think that's why I start shopping way in advance, I peruse catalogs, make notes, throughout the year for birthdays and Christmas. I am the same way with cards. I will buy a birthday card and hang onto it for 9 months because I think its cute. The trouble with this is that sometimes I forget to give it and then I end up hanging onto it for another year. I also did just buy a gift for a wedding shower this spring - I have to remember where I put it when the time comes!
But don't get me wrong about gifts, I am all for gift cards and things like that. I do buy gift cards for the hard to buy for or the people that really don't need anything. At least I know with a gift card it will go to good use. I myself got several this Christmas and can't wait to use them - oh yeah I am talking about you Starbucks and Manicure/pedicure!
Am I the only person who enjoys gift shopping?? Sometimes I wonder! xoxo - Mellycup
