The weather is here, I wish you were beautiful...
So earlier in the week we had the first snow and rumor has it that we got about 14 inches! Crazy! Unfortunatly this time of year the weather and temp is unpredictable so it probably won't last - the real snow and cold probably won't come until later in November. But seeing this snow made me want to dive head first into winter - Run up to Old Forge and build a snowman! I am totally getting restless with fall and I am ready to breathe in that crisp cold mountain air and have that crunchy snow under my feet! Plus I am getting a new sled this year and I am tricking it out with the pink and black style - I can't wait to see it finished!
So my snowmobilers out there - can we go riding yet????????

Vote for Jimmy Buffett - put a real pirate in office!
So voting, yes I am planning on voting next week but seriously I am not anxiously running to the polls. This year I have found making a solid decision about a candidate has been a true struggle. For starters for the last few months all they have been doing is ragging on each other and not really getting to the issues. When they debate they just mud sling and when they campaign they just spit out what seems to be a bunch of false promises. BUT what politician doesn't?
Guy and I had a discussion about this yesterday in the car and here is what came out of it: I am not sure if it does matter if you vote - its not like the President or a Presidential Candidate is really going to listen to one little voice or even a group of voices. Everything that is done in Washington is voted on a by a group of people who are also just trying to win your vote. Guy summed it up perfectly, he said basically we have to vote for the candidate who is going to rip us off less.
With that being said - I am hugely against the war in Iraq, I fully support our troops but I don't support why they are over there - we have spent so much money, currently about 566 billion dollars...all this over Oil and putting money in the wrong peoples pockets. With that money we could have possibly solved our dependency on oil and developed more alternative methods! Not to mention we are still paying outrageous amounts of money for gas and home fuel oil.
My other gripe is that we are in Iraq rebuilding/fixing and after 5 and 1/2+ years nothing seems to have changed except we have over 4,000 dead soldiers. My problem is our country - we need things to be solved here first. The news is filled with tragedy, people dying, people going on killing sprees, kidnappings, homeless, hungry, people without insurance, foreclosures, the unemployment rate is high....the list goes on. HELLO governement it seems to me we need to Rebuild America, restore the economy and jobs, fight crime, get universal healthcare....Sorry Iraq, but we should come first. Its the same with the Wall Street bail out - it could be years before that trickles down to help the hardworking average American.
All in all I am just really frustrated with the state of our country and I am worried that no matter who we vote for it could be a long haul before we see any forward motion. So in closing, yes I am planning to vote next week, even though I am highly skeptical of both candidates.
Maybe I will write in a vote for Jimmy Buffett!

It's fricken freezing in here Mr. Bigglesworth!
Have you noticed the abundance of pine cones???? Well I heard that a lot of pine cones means a snowy cold winter! Which will be great for Old Forge and I don't really mind it here in CT either. Sorry to all you weather foofoos who don't like the snow - hey its pretty and its better than rain!
Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow - I know! I am getting ahead of myself! I am excited!!
Bust out your mittens, scarfs and hats - stay warm!

It's just one if those days when you don't wanna wake up...
Fast forward 10 minutes and I am getting ready to walk out the door and I decide to be ambitious a take the leaf out of my kitchen table and move it back downstairs. Well in my haste, my necklace got caught between the table leaf and the table and broke – DAMN this is not good! Oh well – run upstairs, get a new necklace and I am off. So I arrive in New Canaan and I am thinking - I’d really love a latte – oh but I only have a dollar in my purse, so that is not happening….yes and to add to my annoyance – I totally forgot my apple snack and now I have nothing to eat mid-day.
So my head is just not in a good place today – I know these are petty things, but sometimes it just seems that they all happen at once. I think this gray day out is really enhancing the whole situation and I wanted to vent a little. Maybe the rest of the day will improve. Hey at least I know that chicken will be awesome tonight!

Why does it say paper jam? When there is no paper jam!!!
I have had a huge pile of things that needed to be filed and I have been ignoring it for about 2 months, but I have a really good excuse. Our filing system in this house sucks - we use these file crates from staples and between the personal files and guy's business files, I have to shuffle between 4 crates and as the year progresses on they get heavier and heavier! BUT on Sunday my prayers were answered - Guy and I finally got real file cabinets!!! Yes, the tall metal kind - and I am so excited. I know what you are thinking - how can you be excited about filing cabinets - but believe me this is great. It will save me time, I will definitely file papers more often and I now have more drawers so I will be even more organized! After we set them up I got my filing done in no time flat!
Fast forward to today...I was back at the office in New Canaan with the new trainee, so far all that is going good - but I am kind of hoping the next 3.5 weeks fly and I can get back to Melissa time! Plus we are rapidly approaching the holidays and I have to get all my plans going!
That's all the news for today - xoxo -Mellycup.

If we weren’t all crazy, we would go insane!
Today I inform you that I didn’t get the job, as you may or may not know I have been working as a part-time temp for the last few weeks in New Canaan and I had submitted my resume for the permanent part-time position, but the cards were not in my favor. I am completely fine with all of this because the originally proposed hours had changed and it was a 5 day a week job, which I was not interested in doing. Am I bummed, yes a little, because we all know that a little extra $ right now would be a good thing, but… I am staying on for the next 3 weeks and they want to me be a special projects person in the future, so that is good. I will get to stash some extra cash away for now and then I can have flexibility with the whole special projects position. So all in all, I am cool with it. AND I am so excited b/c in 3 weeks I get to sleep in and get my free time back! It’s been quite an adjustment going from not really working to being in an office 4-5 days a week, plus I hate dressing up. Maybe I’ll finally have time to work on those guitar chords – my poor neglected guitar!
On a lighter note – my very sweet husband took me on a date last night. He knew I was stressing about the job, working, life etc and he left me a sweet card and invitation to go on a fun date! Well he knows the way to this girl’s heart! Last night we went to Mohegan Sun and had dinner at the newly opened MARGARITAVILLE!!! (Yes I am a huge JB fan/Parrothead!). We had a blast – the new restaurant is awesome – we heard all my fav Buffett tunes, we sipped on some boat drinks & margaritas and I even got a rubber duck balloon animal! After dinner we played roulette for an hour and half, and we both came away from the table up –so I must say it was a great casino night for us. G3 – thank you for being so awesome and always surprising me when I need it most, I love you with all my heart!

Wild horses couldn’t Drag me away…or could they???
So Friday we started the party out on the dock drinking some wine & beers, just trying to keep warm, then we had dinner at Daikers on 4th Lake and ended the evening with our final round of drinks at the Red Dog on South Shore.
Saturday – here was the plan: breakfast, then the girls were off for a horseback ride tour and rounding out the day with trip up to the top of McCauley Mountain and a hike down, followed by dinner at Frankies.
Well after breakfast things did not go as smooth. So we 7 girls saddled up and headed out on the horseback riding tour, and at the beginning everything was fine, the horses were just getting munchy out on the trail and they were trying to trot a little but all in all it was smooth…until we went into the woods… Well for some reason a few of the horses decided they wanted to pick up speed, and Ashly’s horse wanted to try a high jump over a log, which promptly tossed Ashly to the ground. Now we all stop to make sure she is okay – which she was, (Ash you’re a trooper!!). So we start to move on, except now Rachel (my 13 year old niece) is completely hysterical and upset and does not want to go any further, so we stop again and try to convince her the only way to get the ride over with is to get on the horses and go. So now Rachel is tied up to the guide’s horse and everything seems ok, she is still crying a little and everyone is on edge. All of a sudden we hear all this screaming from the group behind us and a horse comes barreling through the woods. At this point, my horse takes off and kicks Jeanette’s horse which then makes her horse take off running. And when I say take off I mean galloping at top speed though dense woods, so I get thrown off my horse and roll out of the way just in time to avoid being trampled by Whit’s horse who also joined the pack (She had jumped off before it took off). And then Jeanette gets thrown off her horse. So now there are 4 horses gone and the rest of us are just freaking out and trying to make sure everyone is okay. (which we were, just a little banged up). Well to conclude the horror horse ride story – only 2 of our group members ended up riding back and the rest of us walked part way and got a ride. In the end everyone was okay, just really shaken up and those of us who were thrown from our horses were very sore.
Once we had a stiff drink and a shower, we had some lunch and then we took the chairlift up to the top of McCauley Mountain (36 degrees at the top) and hiked down – the foliage was amazing! Then we capped the night off with some dinner at Frankies and beer pong back at the house.
Check yourself, before you wreck yourself!
Thanks Mom!
